St. Joseph's Carryduff win Indoor Football Competition
The annual Girls’ Indoor Football championship was held on Friday 4th April and this year St. Joseph's Carryduff overcame the favourites and defending champions St. Malachy's Castlewellan to claim their first title. The depleted Carryduff team, without Katie McKenna one of the key players due to illness, battled gamely through their opening games. \\initially they beat St. Bronagh's Rostrevor by 1-2 to 0-1 thanks to a great goal from Amy Hamill and points from Eimear McGrady and Sinaed Early.Their tally of four wins and two defeats earned them a place in a playoff against Grange with St. Malachy's Castlewellan awaiting the winners in the final. Castlewellan had won all their matches and as such were favourites to retain their title but this was not to be. St. Joseph's opened the scoring with two quick points from Sinaed Early and Amy Hamill. St. Malachy's were determined not to relinquish their title without a contest and soon leveled the scores. Indeed they may well have gone ahead only for the efforts of the Carryduff goalkeeper Rachel Moore. There then followed a period of fast flowing football as both teams tried to notch up that vital score and the honour of this fell to Amy Hamill who ensured victory for St. Joseph's with a well taken goal. Indeed Amy Hamill excelled in both defense and attack, scoring goals throughout the tournament while Sinaed Early, supported by Eimear McGrady, Claire McGinnity and Amy Foy, recorded several points. Both Rachel Moore and Emma Norris proved their worth in goals. Congratulations to St. Joseph's Carryduff on winning their first Girls' Indoor Football title ! |
